Bar charts illustrate the 6 important traits for each animal which can be selected by the farmer to improve that genetically inherited feature eg selecting a high EBV for 8week weight will result in faster growing lambs to weaning.
So all traits can be quickly compared between stock rams.
Genetic Trends for 2011
In 2011 the %increase measured across 252 fully recorded lambs was as follows:-
8week weight: +11%
scan weight: +8%
mature size: +2%
muscle depth: +16%
fat depth: +2.5%
Terminal Sire Index: +8%
Conclusion There is a continuous improvement in lamb weights at 8 weeks and 21weeks together with an increase in loin muscle depth with only a small associated increase in fat depth and mature size. These figures show the year on year improvement in the Bleu du Maine lambs which are either retained for breeding or are sold as finished lambs for the meat trade.
